Global Porphyria Day

 

Porphyria is a rare type of epilepsy caused by a build-up of natural chemicals called porphyrins in the body. Acute Porphyria is form of porphyria that affects the nervous systems - and since the brain is part of the Central Nervous System, an estimated 10 - 20% of people with Acute Porphyria experience an epilepsy!

Other symptoms of Acute Porphyria can include bodily pain, digestive issues, hallucinations, red or brown urine, breathing problems, and high blood pressure.
