Global Porphyria Day
Porphyria is a rare type of epilepsy caused by a build-up of natural chemicals called porphyrins in the body. Acute Porphyria is form of porphyria that affects the nervous systems - and since the brain is part of the Central Nervous System, an estimated 10 - 20% of people with Acute Porphyria experience an epilepsy!
Mental Health Awareness Week
Did you know that mental health illness are WAY more common in people with an epilepsy? In fact, many say that mental illness is part of epilepsy!
This year’s theme for Mental Health Awareness Week, as set by the Mental Health Foundation, is “Movement: moving for our mental health.”

On Nurses’ Day 2024 (12th May), we celebrate Epilepsy Nurses, the nurses that help us in hospital, and more!! They are amazing and make such a difference to the lives of people with an epilepsy and often to their families too!
